AI for Parents: How It Works, Where It Shows Up, and What It Means for Children

The internet our children are growing up with is not the one we learned to use. It has been evolving for years and with AI that shift is accelerating. What we see online is increasingly shaped for us across social feeds, search results, chatbots, shopping and news feeds. This session explains what is actually happening and what it means for all of us, including our children, both the risks and the opportunities.

What we cover

  • What AI actually is, in plain English
  • Where AI already shows up, from feeds and search to shopping, maps, filters and chatbots
  • How the internet decides what we see, using the AAA framework
  • Why certain content keeps appearing, repeating and pulling attention
  • How AI can help with homework, revision, planning, ideas and everyday questions
  • How to ask better questions so AI gives better answers
  • A simple prompt library parents can use at home

Inside the session

A look at what the training actually covers.

The hidden logic of the internet

The hidden logic of the internet

Algorithms decide what appears. Auctions decide what wins attention. Analytics turn behaviour into signals.

What AI actually is

What AI actually is

A simple explanation of how AI learns from examples and makes predictions.

How parents can use AI at home

How parents can use AI at home

Practical examples for homework, revision, planning, school messages and everyday questions.

Why this matters
Most of us learned to use the internet as something we searched or browsed. Our children are growing up with an internet that recommends, ranks, predicts and now answers back.

That changes how information appears, how attention is shaped and how choices are influenced.

This session gives parents a simple way to see what is happening underneath and use these systems more consciously at home.
